Sydney Eating: Rogue Cafe, Surry Hills

4th September, 2015

Michal and I decided on our weekly Sunday excursion to visit random places in Surry Hills. Apparently, it wasn’t the original one he wanted to take me too, but we stumbled upon this place.
Rogue Cafe is an Italian restaurant on the inside, with a courtyard covered seating for the cafe part outside.
We sat in the outdoor covered area even though it was threatening to rain.

Initial observations of the menu seemed promising.
I’m always game for some of this banana bread that is found in almost every single cafe here in Sydney. I am truly intrigued that it is always served with some sort of fancy butter too. Time to put butter on your butter bread, or so I’ve been told that is how these Ozzie’s do it.

So we ordered their banana bread, banana milk shake, with their special of the day: nutella banana pancakes with ice cream, and a flat white to top it off.

Everything seemed to be going great. We got our milkshake relatively quickly, and the pancakes then followed.
I enjoyed the milkshake a lot, it was flavored well, but I cannot get over that milkshakes are not very thick, they are just flavored milk.
The pancakes were the only redeeming factor, they were delicious. I would definitely go back to have them again. Perfect fluffiness and toppings, bananas and nutella, with just the right amount of ice cream, so good.

Then it went downhill from there.

They forgot about us. It was about 70% full when we got there, and everyone seemed to slowly leave, and it was down to may 20% full by the time we finished our pancakes.
Then we waited some more. Contemplated leaving… and then we finally asked. And they had forgotten about us.
It came out pretty quickly after that, the banana bread was very good, however Michal said the coffee was not up to his taste. But I couldn’t tell…

Anyway, they apologized for forgetting about us, and didn’t charge us for the coffee. But we were disappointed, especially after how good those pancakes were. I would go back for them, but not for anything else, especially how poor the service was.

2014: January Vacation

Since I never got a vacation over the holidays, I decided to take a week off from work in January.  I was actually supposed to go to Hawaii to meet with my bestie Lara who is living in Australia at the moment, but she couldn’t go.  But I kept my vacation and instead went snowboarding with Heather and went to Cleveland with Elizabeth to see Kate.  It was a nice short break from work. (And I ended up having the worst week ever when I returned to work, but whatever.) Vacations are great, there were memories made, and time spent with the best people in the world.

2013: Summer So Far #5: Ocean City Edition

Pulpit rock Pulpit rock

Went to Ocean City, NJ, for a little family vacation the second to last weekend in August. We have been going as a family for around 4 years I believe. It has been my aunt and uncles family vacation spot for many years, and my mom and I decided to tag along one year, and we haven’t been able to stop. We have then taken our grandparents as well, and my father, brother, and sister-in-law if they are free as well over the years. It is a fun weekend filled with sitting on the beach, walking the boardwalk, and just sitting around and talking. I am so blessed to be able to spend an entire weekend with my extended family year after year.
